Hey there, Reader! Have you listened to this week's new episode on the School of Midlife podcast? I have been waiting to share this conversation with you. Tammy Hadfield has been a hormone specialist for 25 years. She was in the field in 2001 when the Women’s Health Initiative scared an entire generation of women away from hormone therapy. Instead of backing down, she leaned in...and spent years being called one of the “crazy gals” giving hormones to women when most of the medical community said not to. The science eventually caught up. Her patients were better long before it did. We talk about all of it in this week’s episode. But I want to give you a taste of what’s waiting for you -- because Tammy has a way of explaining things that makes you feel like you’ve been robbed of information that was rightfully yours all along. “I’m not a veterinarian. And you are not a horse. So we’re not going to use this for your hormone replacement therapy.” That one is about Premarin. Look it up — or just listen. You’ll never forget it. “All of your hormones come from cholesterol. Every single hormone.” This is the moment I said, “I am today years old learning this.” The cholesterol-estrogen connection -- and what it means for your weight, your brain, and why your doctor might be prescribing the wrong fix -- is worth the listen alone. “Your appointment with me should be the easiest appointment you ever have. I’m just your girlfriend on FaceTime.” She is not wrong. You can hear more about how it feels to work with her. I know I'm scheduling a consult with her! And then -- because this is the School of Midlife after all -- the conversation takes a turn that I wasn’t expecting. Tammy attended the BEST LIFE Retreat in Sun Valley last October. And what happened in the months after, including a planning meeting where she stared at a blank wall and took a black Sharpie to the patient number she’d been chasing her whole career, is one of the most honest things I’ve heard in a recording studio. “I had to redefine what I thought success really meant to me. That’s probably the bottom line.” This episode is a great one for a walk, a long drive, or a Sunday morning with your coffee. It’s informative and funny and real in equal measure. I think you’re going to love her as much as I do. → Listen here: Why Your Cholesterol, Your Weight, and Your Brain Fog May Be Hormone Problems And if you want to work with Tammy, check the episode show notes to figure out how to work with her. xx, Laurie P.S. If you are a woman who has ever been told “that’s just what happens at your age” by a doctor, this episode is specifically, personally, for you. |

Hey there, Reader! Surprised to see me on a Monday? I'll bet! It's by design. Let me explain. I want you to treat your life as the most important thing you do -- the same way you treat your kids, your family, your career. You wouldn't shoe-horn time in for them over the weekend; right? You also wouldn't relegate them to Sunday morning, in between everything else. Which is why the BEST LIFE List is no longer dropping on Sundays. A little backstory: when I started the Sunday newsletter,...
Hey there, Reader! Have you listened to today's new episode of The School of Midlife? I recorded this one with Brooke Amidei, founder of Babble, a free weekly newsletter that's basically the group chat every midlife woman wishes she had. I loved this conversation! About forty minutes in, we ended up somewhere I did not expect. We started talking about basic doctor stuff -- bone density scans, mammograms, that list -- and I told her about my own recent breast MRI. High risk, dense breasts, the...
I want to share something with you today, Reader. 💛 This is from a woman who attended a BEST LIFE Retreat in Sun Valley. She came not knowing exactly what to expect. She left with something she hadn't anticipated. I'll let her tell you: "Attending Laurie's BEST LIFE Retreat in Sun Valley was truly life-changing. I had never done anything like it before, and it exceeded every expectation. The experience gave me the opportunity to pause, reflect, and really think intentionally about how I want...
